Our guest speaker, Vicki Farmery, archivist from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, gave a presentation which touched on the breadth and diversity of the photographic collection held by TMAG. With over 75,000 images, only a small percentage are available for presentation at any time.

Vicki recounted anecdotes related to the discovery and presentation of photographs, including a series of glass plates that were purchased at the tip shop and gifted to the museum.

Incorporating images from an unknown photographer, the images from these plates provide a distinctive but alternative view of recognisable Hobart vistas, dating to the first half of the 20th century.

Vicki provided information about the upcoming exhibition on the West Coast of Tasmania, West : Out on the Edge. Curated by Kirstie Ross, this exhibition will be a mix of contemporary and historic imagery, including a selection of Robinson photographs.

This TMAG exhibition opens at from 6 December to 10 May next year, taking the place of the fantastic Julie Gough exhibition Tense Pase which is on at the moment.
